A veteran captain with more than 20 years of experience guiding will be your host. If you don’t get to see any whales, you’ll get a discounted ticket for next time or some fresh fish. Duration of trip: About 4 hours.

Whale-watching Kazuyoshimaru

Trips depart from the Port of Sue on Kii Oshima Island (in the town of Kushimoto) for the Kumano Sea between Shiono-misaki Point and waters off Taiji. Guests encounter whales and dolphins, and sometimes killer whales. Trips last about three to four hours.

This shop sells handmade folk ceramics with a whale motif, including ceramic lucky whale bells for ¥1,944 and a selection of other cute and unique items such as “whale gas” incense holders. With a reservation, you can also take a class and learn to paint your own (from ¥1,000).
